Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance coverage, commercial auto policy, auto insurance coverage

Question
I use my truck for work for a real estate company doing courier work, picking up jobs from the printers, taking office furniture from one office to another.  I was told a few years ago that I needed a commercial auto policy in case I was in an accident and that my regular insurance policy would not cover me if I was involved in an accident while working.  True or not?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Brian,

This is partially true. However, you do not need a commercial policy. What you do need to do is to ask your current insurance company to rate your policy for business use. This is for people who use there vehicle for some deliveries or who work at varying jobsites. The will cause about a 25% increase in your premium. You should ask your employer to cover the increase , unless they already pay you for mileage.

I hope this helps
