Auto Insurance Claims: Loss of use check, loss of use

Question
We were in a accident in Texas that was not our fault. Our car was deemed a total loss although we chose to keep it and accept their settlement offer and just have it fixed. Our body shop gave us a rental while it was being repaired. The body shop said they would collect for storage and towing so I assume they billed for rental also but we received a check for loss of use. Is this for the rental or for us being put out for 14 days before they actually looked at car and made determination of liability.

Answer
Loss of use and rental are considered the same thing.  One is a cash settlement, and the other is either reimbursed after incurring actual "rental" or paid directly to the rental company.  You may have to pay the shop out of that loss of use check.

I hope this helps.
