Auto Insurance Claims: auto ins coverage, auto ins coverage

Question
My family and my sister-in-law live in different apartments in the same house. We each have our own cars insuring them for our independant families. Occasionally, we borrow each other's cars. Would it be a problem if one of us has an accident while using the other's car?

Answer
Hello David,

Yes, there could be. Usually, insurance polices do cover any driver that has permission to drive your car. However, they usually exclude that coverage if the person borrows the car "regularly" or occasionally or they have it regularly available for their use.

This can give you issues and you want to talk to your lawyer and agent before something happens to ensure you are covered.

I hope this helps,

Good Luck
