if a car was illegally parked in front of my drive way and i accidentally hit it as i pulled out am i only 50% at fault or am i responsible at all.

Actually, you are 100% at fault. Any time you hit a stationary object, even if it is a car that is illegally parked, you are at fault. The reason is that you had a choice not to move your car. You could have sat there until the other driver came out to move their car or you could have called the police and had the vehicle towed since it was illegally parked, etc. The point is that you made the choices that led to your hitting the car, so the damage is your responsibility.
