Auto Insurance Claims: Accident Claim Coverages, wheels and tires, certified mail

My vehicle was involved in a accident that caused front and rear end damage that resulted in my wheels and tires needing to be replaced. The problem is: I purchased my vehicle brand new from the dealer w/custom wheels. The insurance company is stating they cannot replace my wheels & tires because I did not have a custom clause in my policy; When the dealer called and had the vehicle added to my policy I assumed I was insured & I was never asked about customs and I never considered I needed it as the insurer was insuring my vehicle as I purchased it..Is the insurance correct with this issue, do they the right to refuse payment for my wheel & tires?

The policy language typically will cover any aftermarket parts or accessories that were installed by either the factory or the dealer. Check your policy language to be certain of this part of your 1st party coverage for losses. If it is there, you will not require a custom clause in your policy in order to make the claim.

If your policy is like what I described, send the insurer a letter by certified mail demanding that they cover the wheels and tires.
