Auto Insurance Claims: whos liable, whos liable

Question
If I'm driving a friend's car and I get into an accident that is my fault, whose insurance would cover it- mine, because I was driving or my friend's because it's his car?  Thanks

Answer
Hello Lee,

Insurance usually follows the car. Thus, the insurance company of the person who owns the vehicle would be primary coverage. Your insurance company would be secondary, which means that only in the event that the first insurance company does not cover the loss (i.e., there is no coverage) or the amount of damages exceed the contracted limits, the secondary insurance would kick in and cover the excess.

I hope this helps,

Good Luck
