Auto Insurance Claims: Hit and run, life insurance policy, rude treatment

Question
Last week my truck was parked out along the street in front of my house. The next night I went out to get into it I noticed that a vehicle had struck it and left the scene causing approximately $4,000 in damage. As soon as I noticed it I called the police and got a police report. When I looked over the vehicle I found paint transfer along with the violator vehicles mirror still in the bed of my truck. I talked to my insurance company today (state farm) and they told me that I would have to pay the $250 dollar deductible. I don't believe that I should have to pay this because it was obviously not my fault since it was parked legally and I wasn't even in it. I told state farm what I felt about this and they were very rude to me and said that I should start shopping around for another insurance company. And to top it off i have 2 vehicles, a house, boat, and a life insurance policy through them for the past 7 years. Can you suggest anything I can tell them to get me out of this deductible or another insurance company that will treat us right? Thank you so much for your time...

Answer
I can't say anything about State Farm's rude treatment of you, however, the claim is under your collision coverage and unless you or the police can identify the person that hit your truck, you will be stuck with paying your deductible. If you find that person, let your insurance company know who it is so they can subrogate the claim and refund your deductible once they collect from the other party.

Erie Insurance is one of the best in terms of customer service and has one of the lowest rates of complaints filed against them in the nation. Amica is also pretty good in that respect. Still, under the identical circumstances, these companies would want you to pay the deductible.
