Auto Insurance Claims: Hit & Run Accident, uninsured motorist coverage, auto shops

Question
My parked car was recently involved in a hit & run accident. A police report was was taken & I notified my insurance company. Unfortunately, I only have liability coverage & was told that I would have to wait until my insurance company receives the police report before they could proceed. I was then told it could take weeks before a copy of the report could be received.  While my car is "operable", it's in bad condition & I was told by 2 auto-shops it would be considered totaled. My question is, if I were to purchase another vehicle before this is resolved, would this affect my insurance claim in any way?

Answer
Hi Jason,

I'm a bit confused. You stated that you only have liability insurance. If this is the case then your insurance company will not pay anything. You would need to have collision coverage or uninsured motorist coverage to have any coverage on your car.

In either case, if you were to purchase another car it would have no affect on this claim.

I hope this helps
