Auto Insurance Claims: insurance, insurance company, change of address

Question
I recently had my car stolen. My wife and i are separated.  My wife failed to change her address when she moved.  When I made the claim I realized the address hadn't been changed and changed it.  The insurance company is now holding up the claim to investigate.  What should be my next step?

Answer
Hi Deon,

In the case of theft claims, the insurance company will generally take upto 60 days to complete their investigation and allow the police time to try to locate the vehicle before they will pay the claim. As far as the change of address of your wife, this should have no significant affect on your claim. They just have to investigate to be sure there is no connection between the two.

I hope this helps
