Auto Insurance Claims: no fault accident with no insurance, side swipe, driver insurance

Question
Hi,

I was invovled in an accident that a car merged back into my lane without signaling which caused my to lock my breaks up and side swipe the side of the car. we exchanged contact info. i could not find the policy info on the car i was driven. ( i just purchased it from a buddy i work with) i told him the situation and he called his insurance company to only find out that the coverage had ended as of the 20th of August. The accident was today the 25th. Kind of at a lost on what to do. i have insurance on it now through progressive, i aldready had coveage for my motorcycle. Any help will be greatly appreaciated.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Carlton,

Since there was no insurance coverage on the date of the accident, you will not have any coverage for this event. You should file a claim with the other driver insurance company and hopefully the liability decision will be against their insured. If so, they will pay for the cost of repairs to your car. If it is determined that you were at fault for the accident then you will have to pay for your own vehicles repairs as well as the repairs to the other vehicle.

I hope this helps
