Auto Insurance Claims: hit and run, own insurance, collision coverage

Question
my truck was hit by a rental car. The rental car's insurance co says the are not covering the damage because I can't prove that the person who rented the car was driving it...  How does this work?  Don't they need to cover there car being on the road? No matter who is driving it?
It has taken week of calling and leaving messages to find out the say they don't have to pay for my truck. It is totaled

Answer
Hi Even,

Based on your explanation, it sounds like you don't know who was driving the rental car. Was this a hit & run? Did you exchange info with the other driver? Did you call the police?

Unfortunately there are too many unanswered questions for me to be of any help. If you have collision coverage on your truck you should make a claim on your own insurance and let them fight it out with the rental company.

I hope this helps
