Auto Insurance Claims: dropping a claim, Can I drop a claim

Question
I backed into a dumpster hours after getting insurance coverage and filed a claim. They, of course, have their special investigations unit calling and wanting phone records and stuff. The phone is not in my name and i cannot get records. I actually just want to drop the claim and avoid all that drama and nonsense, because we only have a yr to pay on the car and the dent is really not a big deal. I just thought I should file a claim but apparently the out of pocket cost will be around the same amount either way. Can I just drop this claim now?

Answer
For sure, simply send a written notice to your insurance company advising them that you no longer seek coverage under your policy for the accident, and make sure the loss date and claim number is included in the your letter.

In fact, investigating fraud is normally intended to get people to drop their claims.
