Auto Insurance Claims: 2nd accident in less than 2 years, ford escape, final choice

Question
In January 2007, I accidentally pulled the garage door down on top of my Ford Escape, causing $3,500 worth of damage.  My insurance company paid the claim and raised my monthly payment by about $50.  Now it's December 2008 (almost 2 years later).  Yesterday, I was on an errand for the company I work for in my own car.  I backed up and hit a cement post, causing what I would estimate is about $2,000 worth of damage to my car.  First of all, is the company I work for responsible for this since I was doing this errand at their request and during working hours?  If they will only pay the deductible on my own car insurance, should I report another accident?  No one was hurt.  I'm scared to death they'll cancel my insurance -- my credit sucks right now and I don't want to pay an enormous amount of money to go to another company if they cancel my coverage because of this accident.

Answer
Hi Marilyn,

Unfortunately, your company is not responsible for any of the damage. The damage was not caused by anything that your company did.

If you report another claim, your insurance company will likely increase your premium again or may non-renew your policy when it comes up for renewal.

The decision to file the claim is one only you can make. You can take your chances by filing the claim or you can pay for the damage out of pocket. The final choice would be to just not repair the damage if the vehicle is drivable.

I hope this helps
