Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance, state insurance commissioners, stolen check

Question
Sold my car to a guy that paid with a stolen check.Buy never insured car and used it in a criminal act. I never canceled the insurance and got the car back from the police the next day. Insurance won't pay for the damages. Car is still insured and i am still the legal owner. Help.

Answer
Hi Dan,

If there was still coverage on the car and the sale transaction was voided due to the stolen check, I do not understand how they can deny coverage. The only this I can think to tell you in this situation is to file a formal complaint with your state insurance commissioners office. They will then request a written explanation from the insurance company of the details of their claim denial.

I hope this helps
