Auto Insurance Claims: windshield hit by stone, windshield replacement, crack

A stone flew up and hit my windshield sometime in spring.  I didn't see any mark until early summer when I noticed the windshield had a crack (not all the way through) spreading across the windshield.  Is this covered by insurance and have I waited too long to present a claim?

Hi Linda,

In most cases the windshield is covered, however it may or may not be subject to your deductible. Each state treats windshield replacement differently. You will need call your insurance comapny to if your deductible would apply to a windshield replacement. If the deductible does apply, the cost of replacing the windshield is likely to be below your deductible. In that case you would end up paying for it out of your pocket anyway.
