Auto Insurance Claims: claims, uninsured motorists, optional coverage

Question
If I have insurance on my auto and I have an accident with another person who is not currently insured, does my insurance company cover the damages caused by me in the accident?

Answer
Hi Yesenia,
The answer to your question depends on several factors.

First, the other party must be identified and legally found to be at fault.

Secondly, you must be carrying collision.  In this situation, your own company would pay the full amount to repair your car less your deductible.

If you don't carry comprehensive and collision, you may be able to collect part of your damages if you carry Uninsured Motorists Property Damage.  Some companies automatically put this coverage on all cars that don't have comp and collision, while others make it an optional coverage for a small charge.

Uninsured Motorists Property Damage will pay up to the first $3,500 without a deductible in cases where the other party is at fault and identified and has no insurance and you do not carry collision.

I hope that you find this information to be of help.
Your feedback by rating my answer will be appreciated.
