Auto Insurance Claims: Neighboor backed into my car, will I get the check or the body shop?, supplemental payments, insurance company

Question
My neighboor backed into my car overnight. He kindly left me a note and said he would figure it out with his insurance. I gave him 3 different estimates to get my car fixed. I just want to know if his insurance company will send me the money or the company will directly send it to the body shop. Would also like to know if this will give my car a rebuilt title.

Thanks!!!!

Answer
Hi Joao,

The insurance company will likely want to send their own appraiser to inspect the car and write their own estimate. Once the cost of repairs is determined, the insurance company should issue a check to you. Once you put the vehicle in a body shop for the repairs, it is likely that additional hidden damage will be found. The body shop should notify the insurance company of this and they will issue any supplemental payments directly to the body shop.

Your title will not be affected if the vehicle is repaired. A "Rebiult" title is only issued if the vehicle is totaled out by the insurance company and then later someone buys it and rebiulds it to resell.

I hope this helps
