Auto Insurance Claims: Comprehensive Claim Question, uninsured motorist coverage, actual proof

Question
Last night,I swerved to keep from hitting a deer in my 05 Honda Civic.i ended up hitting a tree instead, figuring the deer would come through the winshield.I have comprehensive, liability, and uninsured motorist coverage. Will comprehensive cover this since I didn't actually hit the deer?

Answer
Hi Tyler,

This will depend on your insurance company. Many companies will not treat this as a comprehensive claim without there being actual proof of an animal hit, is; hair or blood on the vehicle. They will assume that you overreacted causing the accident. In that case it would be covered under your collision coverage and will be considered an at-fault event. You will just have to see how your insurance company will handle it.

I hope this helps
