Auto Insurance Claims: OOS claim, First Party Coverage not automatic

Question
Hello I have a policy in WI, I carry only UMBI and liab at state minimums,  I do not have UMPD on my policy, I was in IL and was parked when another vehicle hit my vehicle and fled the scene with the police on their tale. another squad car took my report and they are following up on the other vehicle  for  ID,, IL has mandatory UMBI and UMPD, you cannot waive these coverages.. If the police id the other vehicle and this vehicle does not have insurance for this loss will IL mandatory UMPD come into play for me with my insurance company even though I do not have it on my policy.

Answer
No.  Your Wisconsin policy remains the controlling policy for first party damages.  Just because you are in IL doesn't mean you automatically get the State mandated coverage.

What you are likely thinking of is the fact that if you were at fault in IL, then your WI policy would match the minimum LIABILITY limits in IL.

I hope that makes sense.
