Auto Insurance Claims: Auto insurance claim, auto insurance claim, repair estimates

Question
I was returning my rental car and backed it into the parking place. I was a little off and the corner of the sign marking the space scratched the top of the trunk of the car. A month later I was contacted by the company and told it would be $743. I find this excessive and I also think the company bears some responsibility because the signs are positioned in such a way as to be a hazard. What is the best way for me to fight this claim, or at least get the amount lowered?

Answer
Hi Andrew,

You would have to write them a letter stating your arguments. You should ask them to provide you with a copy of any detailed repair estimates and photos of the damage. You should then make them a counter offer of an amount you fee would be fair.

You should keep in mind that body repair and refinish work is very expensive. A couple hours of repair to the trunk lid and repainting the trunk lid could be close to amount they are asking for.

I hope this helps
