Auto Insurance Claims: 19 year old with car and insurance, own insurance, hi lee

Question
Our daughter lives with us. She is 19 and recently bought her own car and her own insurance. Evidently, in Texas, since she lives with us she is covered by our insurance no matter what. Our company tells us we can specifically exclude her (and save $100.00 a month). If we were to do that and she drove one of our cars, would her insurance cover any damage she caused? Her car is older and she has liability only. Or are our only choices to have her not drive out cars or pay the $100.

Answer
Hi Lee,

Auto insurance follows the car not the driver. So your daughters insurance would not provide coverage if she drives your car.

Your only choices are to either pay the additional $100.00 or exclude her from your policy. Just remember if you exclude your daughter there will be no insurance coverage at all if she drives your cars and you will be personally liable to pay for any and all damages or injuries that she may cause.

I hope this helps
