Auto Insurance Claims: Multi car accident question, property damage coverage, uninsured motorist property damage

Question
My wife was the last car to be hit in a 4 car accident.  She sustained rear end damage only.  A drive in an SUV rear ended a mustang that rear ended my wife.  The mustang or the SUV also hit an on coming car.  The driver of the SUV was uninsured but the driver of the mustang which hit my wife was insured.  Since the drive in the Mustang was the one that really hit my car they are responcible for the damages to my car and thier insurance is the ones that I file my claim against?

Answer
Hi Harrison,

Unfortunately, no. The one responsible for all of the damage is the one that started the chain reaction. So although the Mustang hit your car, the only reason they did so is because they were hit bu the SUV and pushed into you. The Mustang is not responsible at all.

In this situation you will need to file the claim to your own insurance company. If you have uninsured motorist property damage coverage it will paid from that portion of your policy which in most cases has a lower or no deductible. Once your vehicle is repaired, your insurance company will go after the at-fault person for reimbursement.

I hope this helps
