Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance coverage, arc forensics, herb miller

Question
Hello,

I am a British and I will going to USA soon to join my son's university graduation ceremony. After that, we may have a short trip nearly. I have booked a rental car from Avis for 14 days with which the LDW and personal liability are included in the rental package. I enquire for enlisting my son as an additional driver but is told to add $25 per day because he is age 23.  My son has a valid non-owner auto insurance until end of 2012. Questions:
1.  Do I need to pay the under-aged charge for my son if he drives my rental car occasionally?
2.  If I don't pay the under age charge, will his non-owner auto insurance provide coverage when he drives the rental car?
3.  In case of collision or damage happens to both cars when my son is driving my rental car, will it voids my LDW and Personal Liability because he is classified as an unauthorized driver? And am I legally liable for his faults or other party's fault?
Thanks.

Answer
Hello,

Unless you have a special deal going with Avis, I have found Alamo/Enterprise a much better deal.

I would recommend paying the additional coverage because he is under 25. Might be less at the recommended rental car facility. I would not take the chance on his insurance, because the contract will spell it all out.

If you are in an accident and don't have their insurance, you will be held liable for any down time to the car for repair if you don't buy their insurance.
You could be legally liable if you do not follow the contract by the letter. Don't count on his insurance.

Have a great time in the US!
