Auto Insurance Claims: car accident, own insurance, insurance policy

Question
my car was rear ended while stopped at a stop light.  the driver said he'd cover the damages.  now he says he is only responsible for a maximum of $500 because of no fault.  how do i collect the costs for my repairs?  p.s. turns out he is an attorney and has refused to respond to calls and letters

Answer
Hi Risa,

If you are in the state of Michigan, that may be true. If so, you should file a claim on your own insurance policy. If not then he is not correct. If he is not responding, the only thing you can do is to file a law suit against him or file through your own insurance.

I hope this helps
