Auto Insurance Claims: to file or not to file...that is the question., mercedes suv, hypothetical question

I backed out of a driveway and caught the door of my Mercedes SUV on the side of a house.  As a result, the door is "twerked" and the estimate to fix it is $1350.00.  I have a $250.00 deductible with Progressive.  Generally speaking, if I file a claim, will there be a huge difference in my future policy rates?    Sherry

Hi Sherry,

There are many factors that determine insurance rates. Some companies will drop you based on one claim. Other companies will give an increase in rates. While others will not increase your rates at all if this is the first and only claim on the policy. Progressive will likely raise your rates for the next 3 years. However the only way to know for sure is to call your agent and ask a "hypothetical" question of how it would effect your rates.
