Auto Insurance Claims: claim status, own insurance, san francisco bay area

Question
i submitted a claim almost 2 weeks ago to the driver who hit me insurance company they have not contacted me about the status. How long do they have to contact me with the status?...IL

Answer
Hi Kim,
Most states also require that you report the accident to your own insurance company so they can file proof of insurance with your state.  They can also assist you in getting a more rapid response from the adverse company.
Was there a police report or any witnesses?
The adverse company can't admit fault until they have a report from their own insured.  Many people were traveling for the holidays and that would cause a delay in reporting the accident.  Others are simply reluctant to report the accident and hope that you  will just 'go away' if they don't bother reporting the accident, which is why it's always important to have a police report and witnesses.
I suggest that you call the adverse insurance company again and ask if their insured has yet reported the accident.
I hope this has been of help.
Your feedback by rating my answer will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
