Auto Insurance Claims: Paying directly to other insurance company, payment arrangement, minor accident

Question
QUESTION: Hey I was involved in a minor accident, which was my fault. The lady I hit isn't picking up her phone or responding to me. Her insurance called me and asked for a statment. They said it was my fault, my question is can I pay them directly without involving my insurance so my premiums wont go up/my dad wont find out?

ANSWER: Hi Thomas,

Yes. You should call the other insurance company to find out the total amount you will owe them. Auto repairs can be very expensive. If you find the amount is more than you can handle, you can report it to your insurance at that time.

QUESTION: So if her insurance already paid her, Do all I have to pay is the estimate since it was very minor? (Slight corner front bumper dent). Also can they deny to take money from me and go straight to my insurance? Sorry insurance is closed and would like to know, thanks.

Answer
Hi Thomas,

You will owe whatever the actual cost of the repairs are. You may also be liable to pay for a rental car during the repairs.

The other insurance company will likely try to contact your insurance company directly for reimbursement if they have that information. It will be up to you to contact them as quickly as possible to see if you can make a payment arrangement befor they contact your insurance company.
