Auto Insurance Claims: Car insurance with DUI, household member, independent agents

Question
Hello, I got a DUI about 10 months ago and it was right before I was deployed so I sold the car and didnt need the policy any more and my wife didnt drive. I just got back and we bought a car a couple of days ago but no one will give us insurance. The first time we called the gave us a premium of like $1000 (geico)so we wanted to see if some one else had a lower rate but everyone else told us that I had to be on the policy for her to get it, even though I dont have a license and wasnt going to drive it. So we called geico back and they said she cant get it because I "dont" have a license, and I told them I wasnt going to be the one driving then they told us that its because were married that I have to be on the policy. I dont know whats going on what they are saying is I have to be on the policy but I dont qualify so I cant be on it therefore she cant get it. That cant be right. Any Help would be wonderful let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Donald,

Under the circumstances you stated it will be hard to find insurance.  You will need to start contacting independent agents that represent many companies. They will be able to shop your situation around to try to find a company that will insure you. In some states you can get a policy where a specific household member is "Excluded" from coverage. You should ask if this is possible in your state.

I hope this helps
