Auto Insurance Claims: denial of insurance cliam, insurance auto auction, gap insurance

I am a flight attendant and my car was stolen in the possesion of the third party. geico said they recovered the vehicle but the police never informed me. Geico placed my car in an insurance auto-auction and i have documentation stating that the car is still in the police system as stolen .I called honda to inform them and now they are going to gain possession of the vehicle and expect me to pay for the total value. The car is a total loss but through this whole investigation i was informed that i have gap insurance...... i made a legitimate claim , i was never informed by the police and once agian ...car is still in the system a stolen.... what do i do?

Hi Jessica,

First, you need to call the police and provide them with all of the information you have including the location of your car, your insurance information, etc. As far as the claim goes, you should be just fine. The insurance company wil determine the value of your vehicle. They will also communicate with your lienholder. If there is still a balance owed after your auto insurance pays the claim then your gap insurance will pay the difference.
