Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance, accident 2, important factors

Question
I have been insured with Allstate for 2 years the first year I had a claim it was vandalism and they paid approx 1200.00 u.s. I have 2 cars insured under the same policy, the other car is my sons and he had an accident 2 months ago, it was a hit and run .  I have been informed by the insurance company that they are not renewing my policy.

I went personally to the agent and they upheld their decision.  Is it legal to do that?

Answer
Hi Gertrudis,

Unfortunately yes. An insurance company has underwriting guidlines that determine if someone is eligable to be insured in their program. One of the most important factors is claims history. Since you have had 2 claims in the past 2 years it would appear that you no longer qualify for their program based on their underwriting guidlines. You should begin shopping for new coverage as soon as possible so that you do not have a lapse in coverage.

I hope this helps
