Auto Insurance Claims: Irregular Parking Causing Accident, space line, insurance info

Question
My 76 year old Father parked in front of the local drugstore Saturday and he accidentally parked over the line a little bit. His truck was angled slightly outward toward the back of the parking space line. He is disabled and has a handicap tag. He started into the drugstore and the lady that that had been parked beside him in a big truck went to her car and backed out and hit daddy's truck on the side toward the back side light and did several hundred dollars worth of damage to his truck. The police came out and cited Dad for parking over the line and told them they were each responsible for repairing their vehicles. I am not sure this is correct. I would think the lady should be responsible for repairing both her vehicle as well as my fathers.

Answer
Hi Shirley,

Even though your father may have been improperly parked he should not be at fault. Any time you hit a parked vehicle it is your fault. You should get the lady's insurance info and file a claim on her policy.

I hope this helps
