Auto Insurance Claims: co-signer liability, hi bob, co signer

I co-signed on a loan & was listed as co-registered owner recommended by credit union).  My son (47yrs old) totalled his car & was underinsured.  Can the injured come after me any deficiencies due to my son being under insured?

Hi Bob,

As the driver of the car your son is primarily responsible for the damages. However, as an owner of the vehicle it is possible that some lawyer may find a way to try to come after you. If you do not have large amounts of assets, there is likely not much to worry about. If you do have considerable assets you may want to consult with an attorney.
