Auto Insurance Claims: Car front sidesweeped in parking lot, own insurance, car front

Question
Someone tried to parallel park too close to my car which created scratches on the front bumper. I am not sure who it is. I have both collision and comprehensive coverage. Am i likley to bear the deductible since someone is it at fault?

Answer
Hi Raja,

Anytime you make a claim on your own insurance policy you will have to pay your deductible. You should first get an estimate of the repairs from a body shop. Then if the cost is far in excess of your deductible you can make a claim. Even though you were not at fault, if you make a claim it will cause your premiums to increase for the next 3 years unless there is proof someone else was at fault.

I hope this helps
