Auto Insurance Claims: Category C car, category c, insurance company

Question
Hi

I am considering purchasing a category C car (previously written off but now repaired and back on the road).  I am obviously buying this at a much cheaper price and the dealer has been up front about the damage and repairs.  Do I have to declare this to the insurance company and will it affect the premium to insure the car?

Many thanks

Kind regards

Jo

Answer
Hi Jo,

I hope you are getting a significant discount. If the vehicle has a Salvage or Rebuilt title, the vehicle is only worth about 50% of that standard value for that vehicle.  If you disclose that the vehicle is a rebuilt salvage vehicle, it will be very hard to find an insurance company willing to insure it. If you do not disclose it, you will pay regular price for the vehicle, however if you are in an accident that totals the vehicle, the insurance company will only pay 50% of the standard value of the vehicle.

I hope this helps
