Auto Insurance Claims: coverage, licensed insurance, insurance agent

Question
I had heard that when you're living with your partner whom you're intending on marrying, you can sign a letter of "intent of marriage" to be able to have a joint auto insurance like a married couple. is this true? and if not what are the legal ways of getting joint coverage?

Answer
Hi Michael,

I Have never heard of the letter you are speaking of.  To the best of my knowledge, if you are living together, one of you would purchase the policy and list the other person on the policy as a driver. Then you are both on the policy together.

If you do not live together, there is no way that I know of to accomplish this.

You might try asking a licensed insurance agent in your area if they have ever heard of this. It might be something specific to your state that I'm not aware of.

I hope this helps.
