Auto Insurance Claims: Accident with a rental car without insurance, rental car company, loss damage waiver

Question
QUESTION: I got into an accident a few days back where i scrapped and dented the other party's car a little. I got the Loss Damage Waiver, but didn't realize that it wasn't the liability insurance.

Is it possible for me to contact the other party or his insurance company and settle it out of my own pocket? Since it's a rental car, do I need to report to DMV?  Will my license get suspended still?

ANSWER: Hi Maria,

There is no way for me to know if our license will be suspended.

Yes, you can contact the rental car company to ask them how much the damage is and try to work out a payment arrangement.

I'm not sure if you need to report this to the DMV or not. You would need ot contact the DMV to ask.

I hope this helps

QUESTION: Hi Richard,

Thanks for answering my question previously. Last question, I've gave the other driver my roomate's name, who was the one who rented the car, instead of mine by mistake. DMV sent a letter to my roomate.

Will I get into trouble for my slip up? I got flustered because it was my very first accident and didn't meant to give the wrong information on purpose.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Maria,

You could get into trouble if they think you intentionally lied. You should just tell them that you gave your roommates name because she is the one on the rental contract and you thought that is the name they needed.
