Auto Insurance Claims: Need HELP ASAP Please, crazy claim

Question
Hello,

My name is Brenda Potts. I live in Dallas, Texas. I have a quite complicated situation, I hope you can shed some light on the matter for me. I am lost and confused and quite scared to tell you the truth. Here are the simple facts:

I have a 2007 Mazda 6 which has been financed for the past three years. I had given it to my 23 year old son to drive to help him out as long as he paid the car note and part of the insurance on it. I bought me another car. My first mistake. Being a irresponsible 23 year old, it was a constant fight getting the car payment and insurance money from him each month, to the point the late payments were ruining my credit and the stress ruining my life. I decided to take the car back from him and would call the finance company to come pick it up. My husband let my son know that we would be picking the car up this Friday 8-5-11. Last Friday, my husband had to renew our car insurance policy and advised them we did not want the Mazda on there starting next month.  TODAY:

My son calles me at 9:00am and tells me someone has stolen the car. I knew that instant something wasn't right and told him I would call him back. What I did not know is that I had a missed call from a Tx DPS Trooper telling me that was car was found on the side of the road crashed and burnt to a shell. AND it was apparrent that it was NO accident. We called the insurance company right away, to only find out that the car was taken off our policy on that Friday. WHY would they do that??????????We were under the impression it would be covered until 8-25-11, at which at the finance company would have already picked up the car. I am just sick and lost. I have NO idea what to do. My husband called and spoked straight to the insurance company and they told us that the agent could change the date but the agent is telling us that they have to talk to the insurance company...and we haven't heard anything. I am scared to death to contact the Finance Company. Any words of advice would be welcomed!

Thank you!

Answer
Brenda,

Your situation is sensitive.  I am apprehensive of making comments over the web as your case could potentially involve a formal fraud investigation.  The details of the request for coverage to be dropped and the timing of the theft are paramount in this case.  I suggest you contact my office directly to discuss the matter in greater detail.  You can locate my contact information easily by searching for my name or for our company, Petty Details, LLC.  I'm sorry I could not offer a quick solution to your issue, but I am confident this response is the proper response for your question.

Sincerely,
JP
