Auto Insurance Claims: parking lot accident, claims advice, claim help

Question
I pulled into parking space , turned car off, and was proceeding to open door when car pulled into the adjacent space. My front door edge was struck by passenger front door panel at protective strip of incoming car. Approximately 20 inches of protective strip was peeled back with some minor scraped to door panel.
Other driver thinks that since front quarter of car was not damaged that the incident was my fault. I think it was due more so to the angle of the car as it pulled in and speed.
I am inclined to let insurance companies decide.
Does the responsibility lie with the vehicle in motion or is it just an accident.
Thanks.

Answer
 Hello gt,

In my professional opinion, the person who struck you is 100% at fault.  Where your car was damaged, what angles, etc ... all of that is irrelevant.  The other driver wasn't paying attention, or maybe just doesn't know how to park.  It is an accident, but the other driver is at fault.

Bypass that driver and report the claim to that driver's insurance company - not yours!

Hope this helps.
