Auto Insurance Claims: Florida PIP, Florida No Fault, Florida PIP

Question
Whatguidelines outline what qualifies as personal services under the PIP?I was injured in a car accident, and want specifics as to what services qualify. I realize each company is different, and was wondering if a state regulation outlines this. TYGMW

Answer
 Hello Gordon,

Florida PIP, also known as Florida No Fault. Is statutory, 627.736.  Accordingly, companies cannot vary what they offer under PIP.  If you want to read the actual statute, here is the link:

http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_St...

To answer your specific question, I'm not certain exactly what you mean by "personal services", but there are only certain things that PIP will cover, notably medical benefits (which must be prescribed or administer by a medical professional), disability benefits, or death benefits.

In regard to medical benefits, the statute specifically reads:
Medical benefits.—Eighty percent of all reasonable expenses for medically necessary medical, surgical, X-ray, dental, and rehabilitative services, including prosthetic devices, and medically necessary ambulance, hospital, and nursing services. However, the medical benefits shall provide reimbursement only for such services and care that are lawfully provided, supervised, ordered, or prescribed by a physician ...

Perhaps this answers your question as to "personal services".

I have two specific articles that deal with the basics of Florida No Fault:

If there is something more specific that you need as to the specific personal services you are questioning, let me know in a follow up.

Hope this helps.
