Auto Insurance Claims: 1996 kawaski zx9, kawasaki zx9, aaa insurance

Question
I was hit by a driver who has aaa insurance ,it had been determined he was at fault. my motorcycle is still running good and still very much so drivable.the only thing wrong with the bike is all the plastic that makes it look good is all broken up. Basically the damage is all cosmetic.AAA says my bike is a total loss.I dont understand how can my bike still be running great still have a nice smooth ride and be a total loss. Is there anything that i can do to keep my very rare 1996 Kawasaki zx9 and get it back looking good

Answer
Hi Jermaine,

The decision to total the bike has nothing to do with how good the bike runs. It is purely a financial decision. If the cost of repairs is more than 75% of the value of the bike the insurance company will total it. You can try to shop around for parts that would be less costly. Or you can offer to accept say 70% of the bikes value in exchange for a signed release form. However if you do that and more damage is found, you can not go back for more money.

I hope this helps
