Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 87 Chevy S-10 A/C orfice tube, orifice tube, main ingredient

Question
Can you tell me where the orfice tube is located on a 87 Chevy S-10 with a 2.8 v-6. And also does it have to have one.
Thanks for your help

Answer
Rodney,

The Orifice tube should be in the Accumulator inlet, or the line going into the Accumulator. Usually, if it's in the line itself, you'll see an access fitting, and then (approx 3 inches later) depressions around the outside of the line. This crimp prevents the tube from moving.

Does it have to have one? Absolutely -- this is the only thing separating the low side from the high side, and is a main ingredient in basic refrigeration. Good luck!
