Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioning, electronic leak detector, r 134a

Question
97 s10 compresser keep going on and off air doesnot work[cool]

Answer
Don,

It seems as though the R-134a level is low in your system. When the refrigerant level is low, the low-pressure switch (or pressure cycling switch) opens, preventing the system from operating. I would take it to a certified A/C shop -- the first step would be a partial charge and leak test. Then, they'll probably check the system with an electronic leak detector -- if no obvious leak is found, they'll insert a dye in the refrigerant that is more accurate for diagnosis. Sometimes, it takes a few weeks for the circulated dye to find its way out, but it will.  Good luck!
