Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: R12 charge, vacuum pump, atmospheric air

Question
I have a 1985 Chrysler 5th Ave. 318 5.2. I have found some R12 and a can of compressor oil and would like to get the conditioner working. It at present does not work at all and blows only outside temp air. I would like to know where the low pressure side is on my car and what do I put in first the R12 or the oil and do I put the oil in the same low pressure place. I just recently bought this car and conditioner was not working when I bought it.    Thanks

Answer
You need to evacuate all the remaining freon from the system and use a vacuum pump to remove all the atmospheric air from the system and check it for leaks and then recharge it.

Equiment needed:

a set of A/C gages.

a vacuum pump.

A leak detector.

Without a set of A/C gages you have no way of knowing how much freon is in the system already, If any, Orit could be full and have an electrical problem. If you just dump in freon you can overcharge it and damage components.
