Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Blower for air conditioner, grand ch, fan blower

Question
Dear Sir/Madame:

The fan/blower on my 98 Jeep Grand Ch has stopped functioning.  One day when I turned it on, it started then just stopped.  I've jump the motor directly to the battery and the motor runs fine.  I've replaced the relay with no effect.  Do you have any thoughts.  Thanks for any help.

John

Answer
The first thing that you need to keep in mind at ALL TIMES, is tha you CANNOT safely just jumper any electrical component directly to the vehicles battery as you can and will DESTROY one or more depending on the type of vehicle you have, The computer or computers within the vehicles electronics.

This was a method that was fairly safe to do on non-computerized vehicles, But with the technology in today's vehicles you simply CANNOT do this. I STRONGLY advise you NOT to try this in the future or risk FRYING a computer(s) and then you are talking hundreds of dollars to replace.

I do not have at my disposal a service manual for your specific vehicle so I do not know exactly what controls  the blower motor, But by past experience it is controlled by some type of electronic MODULE.

You will need to obtain a manual that shows how the system functions so a diagnosis and repair can be made.
