Auto body repair & detailing: can I paint my own car?, nissan pathfinder, spayer

I have a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder and it is black but not ' new ' black anymore...I really like these type of vehicles and want to keep mine for a while. I was quoted $5-6000 ( canadian money ) to repaint the vehicle....can I do it for less if I do it myself if I by the paint and study the use of the air spayer? and how much less would you guess?

Usually, about 45%-60% of the price quote is labor. So in other words, $2500 - $3500 of the price you were quoted is for the labor.

My suggestion to you would be to consider this idea before you start. Shops charge what they do because it's hard work and to get a job to turn out good takes experience. It's kinda like me choosing to build my own home even though I don't know how to use a skil saw.
