Auto body repair & detailing: Collision Repair & Paint, logo nissan, radiator support

Hi Gary,

My Nissan was in an accident where the driver-side light, its fender, and that side of the hood were pushed back about 1 inch.
I took it to repair, and asked to have it painted (polyurethane) at the same time. The estimate included:

New radiator support "bar"
New front and side lights
New hood
straightening/pulling the compressed side
all parts are aftermarket

When I picked the car up, I noticed the following:

The paint was oversprayed around all the lights, all the rubber/plastic trimmings, the door handles, one of the tires (lightly), the plastic where the winshield wipers sit.

The car key had spray lightly on one of the sides (probably from being nearby when the paint job was in progress)

Paint was missing from the hood's edge facing the winshield. I can see the black exposed.

Looking from the front of the car thru the grid, the parts inside are painted (maybe radiator, some A/C parts, whatever is there got painted)

In the rear of the trunk's cover, where it has the logo "NISSAN" in a metal plate, there's an area like an inch around the letters where paint was applied on some kind of "flakes" (maybe old paint not completely removed) so the paint is sticking out like a bunch of scales like 1/4 to 1/2 inch or something like that.

All the plastic/rubber trimmings in the underside of the hood, are missing. Including the plastic hook that holds in place the stick used to keep the hood open when needed.

There was paint in the driver's side carpet and the speaker at the bottom of the door, probably from someone's shoes soaked in paint who sat there.

The front line of the hood, and the light on the side of the collision mount slightly behind the fender's front like 1/4 of an inch. You can see the difference with the passenger side. The place where the fender, the driver's side door column, and the hood meet, the fender overlaps the door column slightly on the repaired side. I wonder if they actually stretched it right.

The radiator support bar wasn't replaced, they cut the part that was deformed, and replaced it with a chunk (8 inches of the new part (i'm not sure if it's welded or glued with something else)

Inside the car it smells like paint a lot after a week, and when the A/C starts it smells very strongly like pee.

I feel like I got a body repair from hell and a paint job by the tazmanian devil.
Which of these defects are acceptable and which are not?

Hi Richard,

In my opinion, I wouldn't accept any of these defects. When a vehicle is repaired it should be done to pre-accident condition or better. My advice is to get your insurance company involved provided they paid for the repair. If it was an out of pocket expense you need to go see a lawyer.
