Auto body repair & detailing: Repairing ripped vinyl on a door panel, auto body shop, automotive upholstery

Question
Hi, this is my first time on this website and my first time ever asking for any help/advice. I'm not too familiar with cars, so bare with me with any technical car terms, but I have a bit of a dilemma with my 2000 Honda Civic door panel.

Last night, I was trying to fit an air conditioner in the rear seats. Unfortunately, when the item was placed in, one of the sharp edges of the item ripped the rear drivers side door panel towards the lower end where the material is vinyl. The rip is pretty deep, but only about two inches or so.

My question is how much should I expect the repairs to be if the vinyl is ripped from the left rear (drivers side) door panel. I know that it's tough to tell without looking at the damage, but what should I expect to hear when going to auto body shops?

Thank you for any advice/help!

Answer
Hi Marilyn,

You might consider taking it to a automotive upholstery shop instead of an auto body shop. Most likely a body shop will just farm out the work and add a percentage on the top for handling it.

Honestly, I don't know much about that type of repair but I would think $100.00 would be sufficient to cover it. However, I would get an estimate before I allowed them to do the work.
