Auto body repair & detailing: Replacing a drivers side front power door, nissan altima gxe, nissan altima

Question
QUESTION: Hello Mike,

I found a driver's side front door for my car with exact color match. According to the salvage yard, its it good condition. It going to cost me about $330 to get it where I am. I'd like to know what the pros and cons are of buying a used door? Since its a exact color match, I'm thinking I don't have to worry about painting and save on it. But is replacing the electrical and locks on the door a very extensive job?

ANSWER:  Chances are, the stuff inside your old door will be ok. Make sure you match the color code on your car to the code on the salvage car, and that doesn't mean it will match but it's a better chance.
I do not know what kind or year vehicle you are working on so I could not tell you the expense of changing or replacing the insides of the door.

QUESTION: Its a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE (Cloud White). Its power windows and locks. I'm contemplating doing this on my own and was worried about wiring.

Answer
It should be a simple job. I believe that car does not have a service plug at the pillar but look for one anyway. If not, you will have to unplug all the wires in the door and feed them through the hole in the front of the door. Do not cut any wires if you can help it.
