Auto body repair & detailing: Clear Coat Peeling, two coats, dry sand

Question
I have a '92 Buick and the clear coat has started peeling off of the roof this winter. I understand that in order to get the best finish the entire area should be feathered out and a new base coat applied. However I do not have the time or the money to do this, if the clear coat around that area is blended and new clear applied would that keep the rest of the clear coat from peeling off? As of right now the paint is in great condition, minus clear coat! Thanks

Answer
Hi Mitchell,

Yes, it should stop the peeling. However, It's going to make the color look bad and you will be able to see exactly where the old clear is gone. If that's not a problem for you then clean it good and sand it with 1500 grit wet or dry sand paper and put at least two coats of clear-coat on.
