Auto body repair & detailing: mercury mariner bumper, mercury mariner, speed nuts

Question
Hi I have a 2005 mercury mariner and was wondering if you have any idea what I would have to do to replace the silver plastic strip on the back bumper that says mercury. It is right under the bumper pad and I'm not sure if I can get to it if I remove this pad or if I'm going to have to remove the whole bumper. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Answer
I have not had one of these apart yet But I do believe that it is on there by use of double sided tape adhesive. If you plan to replace it anyway buy the part first and look at that one before you take off the old one. If it is not double sided tape that holds it on than it is fastened by speed nuts and you probably will have to take off the whole bumper for replacement of the chrome moulding. The double sided tape moulding is replaced by gently prying at one side with a screw driver than just pull until you remove the whole thing. The rest of the double sided tape that is left will need to be removed by rolling it with your fingers until gone this is not easy.
